Front Roadside Garden
After having 3 large pines removed from the front area, there was suddenly a large empty space that needed immediate attention. The pine stumps were ground out, and stones that edged the entire bed were dug out and piled up. The abundance of rocks and boulders were a collection that the previous owners had gathered during many trips up north.
Before
To start the project, the bed was edged and weeded. Then we amended the soil with 20 yards of soil and compost, (a 50/50 mix). Next we grouped the boulders and built rock walls.
Work In Progress
The garden contains a variety of shrubs and perennials. The client wanted a colorful 4-season garden that would be nice to look at all year. Some of the plants include Hostas ('Revolution' pictured here) and 'August Moon', Japanese Painted Fern, 'Purple Palace' Coral Bells, Sedum 'Autumn Joy', Russian Sage, Hybrid Daylilies (red, gold & purple), Black Eye Susan, Purple Cone Flower, 'Knock Out' Roses, 'Red Price' Weigela, 'Nanho Blue' Butterfly Bush, 'Goldflame' Spirea, 'Sungold' Cypress, Berri Magic Holly, Hetz Midget Arborvitae, as well as several grasses (Zebra, Blue Fescue & 'Karl Foerster').
Ready To Plant
A mini panorama of the finished bed in fall. The final touches included adding a bird house (see above "work in progress" photos), a bird bath (below, pine on the left) and a stepping stone maintenance path.
