Bench Garden
This wooded space was a blah area that lacked interest. The homeowners requested that the space to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. They made attempts at planting groundcover, hostas and annuals, but nothing seemed to do well or give them the look they desired. The area is best described as "dry shade" and therefore needed plants that could withstand both the dry aspect, (root competition from the trees) and "shade" once the canopy of leaves appeared. We presented a design that offered appropriate plants, a focal point and paths.
Before
The dreary area comes alive with a mixture of textures and colors! We added the flagstone paths, a bench as the focal point (that was enjoyed for the rest of the season), and a variety of plants that featured the homeowners favorite colors and textures. To correct the moisture issue, as this area is not irrigated, we mulched very heavily. Then it was a matter of being very diligent to keep the area well watered as the new plantings were getting established.
